Unhappy With Loose Skin or Aging in the Neck?

Many men and women feel that signs of aging around their neck — such as loose skin, muscle banding, and excess fat — make them look older or less refreshed than they feel inside. A neck lift can tighten underlying muscles, remove excess skin and fat, and restore a smoother, more youthful neck and jawline.

At Defyne Plastic Surgery, we don’t just tighten skin; we address the deeper structures of the neck, combining advanced techniques to deliver elegant, long-lasting results. Contact us today to schedule your consultation appointment.

What is a Neck Lift?

The neck is often one of the first areas to show visible signs of aging, even if your face still looks youthful. Loose skin, vertical banding, and fullness under the chin can obscure your jawline and add years to your appearance. A neck lift is a transformative procedure that restores structure and definition to the neck and jawline, helping you look more youthful, refined, and confident. Whether performed alone or combined with a facelift, your procedure will be completely tailored to your anatomy and aesthetic goals for a result that looks natural and balanced.

At Defyne, we recognize that everyone is unique, so we offer two main approaches: a traditional surgical neck lift and our proprietary minimally invasive lift, the Overnight Lift.

Below, you’ll find how each works, who is a good candidate, and what to expect.

Which Option is Right for You?

If your primary concern is mild to moderate neck laxity with minimal downtime and scarring, the Overnight Lift may be an excellent option.

If you have more advanced skin laxity, muscle banding, or desire a deeper correction, traditional neck lift surgery may be the better choice. During your consultation at Defyne, a board-certified plastic surgeon will assess your anatomy, skin quality, and aesthetic goals, then recommend the most appropriate approach.

  • No or minimal scarring
  • Natural-looking results
  • Local anesthesia only

Your surgeon will also inform you regarding any steps you should take to prepare for your Overnight Lift, including altering medications and stopping smoking.

During Your Procedure

The Overnight Lift procedure is performed by one of our board-certified plastic surgeons in the comfort of our specialized procedure rooms, awake and under local anesthesia.

Your surgeon will spend time with you before your procedure to review the plan and markings and answer any last-minute questions.

During the procedure, your comfort is our greatest priority, and we pride ourselves on providing a seamless experience. The local anesthesia ensures you won’t feel a thing while our surgeons work, and our team will be with you throughout the process. We have dubbed this process our “Talk n’ Tuck” approach, which decreases procedure time, complication risks, and post-procedure pain and ensures a faster recovery time. Patients tell us that it feels like the whole experience is over in a wink of an eye—and you even get to choose the music in the room.

To create a rejuvenated contour, the platysma muscle (the neck muscle), the fat layer between the muscle and skin, and the skin itself must be addressed. Using the Overnight Lift technique, our surgeons treat each of these layers with a minimally invasive approach to achieve your desired improvements. This allows for natural and noticeable results without creating any scars

Downtime & Recovery

Because the Overnight Lift is performed using local anesthesia and minimally invasive techniques, downtime is significantly less than traditional neck lift surgery. You will start your recovery in the comfort of your hotel room or home the same day, with a head wrap in place and minimal dressings. You can remove the dressings the next day for your first shower. Your surgeon will provide you with specific aftercare instructions to ensure proper healing.

What is it

Traditional neck lift surgery involves removing excess skin, tightening underlying muscles, and repositioning or removing fat to create a smoother, more youthful neck and jawline. This surgical approach is ideal for individuals with more significant signs of aging or loose skin.

Our Advanced Techniques

At Defyne, we combine multiple, state-of-the-art tools to refine every layer of the neck:

Central and Lateral Platysmaplasty:

The central neck muscles (platysma) are tightened to eliminate vertical bands and reinforce the underlying structure of the neck. A lateral platysmaplasty addresses the lateral aspect of the platysma, excising any excess neck skin and sharpening jawline. Occasionally, we need to address deep neck structures such as submandibular glands or deeper muscles in the neck.

Submental Liposuction:

Excess fat under the chin is removed through a small, hidden incision, sculpting the neck angle and restoring youthful definition. This is typically paired with skin tightening to help tissues redrape tighter along the underlying tissues.

Benefits

  • Dramatic correction of neck laxity and jowling
  • More predictable long-term results
  • Addresses deeper muscle laxity and significant skin excess

Best for

  • Individuals with moderate to advanced neck aging
  • Patients who desire more comprehensive correction
  • Those who are willing to undergo general or sedation anesthesia for surgery

Every neck lift journey at Defyne begins with a thorough, one-on-one consultation. During this visit, we’ll assess your anatomy, review your goals, and develop a personalized surgical plan tailored to your needs.

In the weeks leading up to your procedure, you’ll receive customized preoperative instructions. These may include adjusting medications or supplements, avoiding alcohol and blood thinners, and discontinuing all nicotine products (including smoking, vaping, patches, and gum), which is critical for proper healing. Proper preparation is key to ensuring a smooth recovery and the best possible results.

We also offer flexible anesthesia options to fit your needs and comfort level:

  • Local Anesthesia Only: Ideal for small, targeted procedures with minimal downtime. You’ll remain awake and comfortable.
  • Twilight Sedation with Local Anesthesia: Our most popular option, monitored by our board-certified anesthesiologist, offering full comfort while you breathe naturally with no breathing tube or heavy drugs.
  • General Anesthesia: Best for more extensive surgeries or patient preference, with full monitoring by our board-certified anesthesia team. We’ll guide you in selecting the best approach based on your health, preferences, and the complexity of your procedure.

During Your Procedure

Your neck lift is performed with precision and artistry to create natural, elegant results with minimal visible scarring.

The procedure begins with tightening the platysma muscles to smooth neck banding and restore a youthful contour. Any excess fat is either removed or repositioned for a more defined jawline and neckline. The skin is then gently redraped without tension, and any excess is trimmed to avoid a “pulled” look. For select patients, radiofrequency (RF) energy may be used to further firm and tighten the skin.

All incisions are closed with meticulous suturing techniques to support optimal healing. Small drains may be placed to reduce swelling and promote smooth recovery. Every step is taken to ensure your comfort, safety, and a beautifully refined result.

Downtime & Recovery

Recovery after a neck lift is typically smooth and well-tolerated. In the first few days (Days 1–3), you may experience swelling, a sense of tightness, and mild bruising—all normal parts of the healing process. Discomfort is usually minimal and easily managed with oral pain medication.

By Week 1, most stitches and any drains are removed, and swelling begins to subside. Around Week 2, many patients feel confident enough to return to work and light social activities. By Weeks 3–4, you can usually resume exercise and your full daily routine.

You’ll be provided with a supportive neck garment to encourage healing, detailed aftercare instructions, and regular follow-up visits to ensure everything is progressing beautifully.

With expertly hidden incisions, visible scarring is inconspicuous, and you’ll still look like yourself, just with a smoother, firmer, more defined neckline.
