What is Eyelid Surgery?
The skin on our eyelids is some of the thinnest, most delicate skin on our bodies. Because of this, aging often begins to appear earlier around the eyes than in other areas. Aging eyelids can impact a person’s appearance, making them look older, sad, or even angry. Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is an effective option for restoring a naturally youthful, refreshed look to tired-looking or aging eyes. This procedure can also eliminate sagging eyelid skin, which can obstruct vision.
Eyelid surgery can correct sagging upper eyelids, puffy lower eyelids, or both. At Defyne, our board-certified plastic surgeons perform eyelid surgery with the goal of treating signs of aging, stress, and fatigue for a natural-looking yet noticeable aesthetic improvement.

Eyelid Surgery Candidates
Eyelid surgery can be a life-changing procedure for many, not only improving the appearance of the eyes but also improving vision. This procedure may be a good choice for healthy individuals who are bothered by excess, lax upper eyelid skin that causes folds or impairs vision or excess fatty deposits that cause puffy lower lids. The best way to determine if an eyelid surgery is right for you is to schedule a consultation with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons in Scottsdale, AZ.
At Defyne, our plastic surgeons are skilled in performing a variety of eyelid surgery techniques.
Upper Eyelid Surgery
Upper eyelid surgery is performed to remove excess, lax skin on the upper eyelid and smooth the area for a more youthful and alert appearance. Your plastic surgeon will create an incision in the natural folds of the eyelid through which excess fat and skin are removed.
Lower Eyelid Surgery
Lower eyelid surgery is performed to correct building or sagging skin underneath the eye. During this procedure, your plastic surgeon will create an incision slightly below the lower eyelash or inside the lower eyelid to remove excess skin, tissue, and fat.
Ethnic Eyelid Surgery
Ethnic eyelid surgery, also known as double eyelid surgery, is performed on Asian eyes to create a more defined upper eyelid fold and remove epicanthal folds from the lid. This procedure can make the eyes appear larger.
P.R.O. Facial Rejuvenation Signature Procedure
Eyelid surgery can be combined with other facial regenerative procedures such as mid-face fat grafting, Micro-Coring and nanofat techniques, forehead neuromodulators, and more to bring back your youthful facial appearance without the need for a facelift or further scars.
Mid-Facelift with Eyelid Surgery
In cases where the lower eyelid skin is lax, midfacial tissue often also needs a lift. This procedure combines removing the excess tissue from the lower eyelid with the redraping or midfacial tissue and fat grafting for an overall rejuvenated facial appearance.
What Our Patients Say
Read MoreFrequently Asked Questions
-
When is the best age to have eyelid surgery?
Most individuals who receive blepharoplasty are above the age of 35. However, baggy or droopy eyelids may run in your family, requiring the sooner delivery of this cosmetic treatment. Many patients who undergo eyelid surgery find that it revamps their facial look and increases their confidence.
-
Does blepharoplasty help with crow's feet, dark circles, and hollow eyes?
Keep in mind that the goal of eyelid surgery is to address imperfections such as puffiness, wrinkles, or drooping around the eyelids. While this procedure can help improve the appearance of fine lines in the forehead and other facial imperfections, it is not designed for that purpose. Our plastic surgeons may recommend that you combine your eyelid surgery with non-invasive procedures such as Botox or fat grafting to address other aesthetic concerns.
-
Will there be scarring?
Eyelid surgery typically does not result in visible scarring because the incision is placed at the eyelid crease. Our surgeons take extreme care and utilize advanced surgical techniques to deliver the desired outcome while minimizing the risk of scarring and other complications.
-
How long will eyelid surgery results last?
Upper or lower eyelid surgery rejuvenates your eyes and gives a youthful facial appearance. Keep in mind, though, that this procedure cannot stop the natural aging process. Depending on genetic influences and environmental factors, results can often last for as long as 10-15 years. We advise that you take good care of your skin and stay out of harsh sunlight without protection to maximize the outcome of your eyelid rejuvenation.
