Breast Lift

  • Downtime: 5-7 Days

  • Invasiveness: Moderately invasive

  • Anesthesia: General anesthesia or twilight sedation, asleep

  • Size of Scar: Size depends on the extent of the lift and is hidden in the natural creases

What is a Breast Lift?

The breast lift procedure restores a firm, perkier shape and position to sagging breasts (also known as ptosis) following weight loss, pregnancy, or due to the natural effects of aging and gravity. This procedure can also improve an individual’s appearance by restoring more youthful, feminine body proportions.

A breast lift effectively achieves a more youthful breast contour by removing excess, lax skin, reshaping breast tissue, and raising the nipple and areola. The breast lift procedure can also be combined with a breast augmentation to address ptosis and increase the size of the breasts.

For those seeking a less invasive option, Defyne is proud to offer its True Form Breast Lift signature procedure that combines cutting-edge techniques and allows for less downtime and scars.

The Defyne Approach

At Defyne, we are proud to offer a highly individualized treatment approach. This includes the creation of unique, personalized treatment plans to meet the needs of each individual. Using only proven surgical techniques and cutting-edge technology to ensure natural-looking results with a decreased risk of scarring and complications.

What To Expect

Your first step toward improving lax and sagging breasts is to schedule a consultation appointment with one of our plastic surgeons. During this visit, you can discuss your aesthetic concerns, medical history, and ultimate aesthetic goals. A personalized treatment plan will then be created to make your procedure goals a reality.

Individuals who are not ideal candidates for a traditional breast lift or are seeking a less invasive option may benefit from our True Form Breast Lift.

If a breast lift is the best treatment option for you, you may be asked to take certain steps to prepare for your procedure. This may include stopping or adjusting certain medications and stopping smoking. Your surgeon will give you detailed instructions on how to prepare.

Breast lift surgery is an outpatient procedure, meaning you can go home on the same day. Although a mastopexy surgery is generally performed under general anesthesia in an ambulatory surgical center,  at Defyne, we have been able to combine advanced local anesthesia techniques to offer this surgery under twilight sedation in the comforts of our very own specialized procedure rooms. This means that for the right candidate,  there is no need for a tube in your throat or any paralysis. Our board-certified anesthesiologist ensures your comfort while minimizing medication, leading to a shorter recovery time and a quicker return to your activities. Once your surgery is complete, you will be able to return to your home or your hotel within a few hours. Your utmost safety is our highest priority, and we only use proven enhanced recovery during and after surgery (ERAS) protocols to care for you.

The breast lift technique that is right for you will depend on your individual anatomy and aesthetic goals. To best determine the right technique for your case, your surgeon will create a personalized surgical plan to ensure you are confident with your results.

Following a breast lift, most patients can return home to rest and recover. However, it is important to have a friend or family member drive you home after surgery. You will be provided with a compression garment, which should be worn at all times to support your new breast contour and reduce swelling. Light walking as soon as possible is encouraged to ensure proper blood flow. Your surgeon will prescribe appropriate pain medication to help with any discomfort. Ultimately, our clinical team will provide you with specific instructions regarding healing and when you can resume exercise and more strenuous activities.

Every Body is Different

Breast Lift Techniques

A selection of breast lift incision patterns can be used during surgery. These include the following.

Crescent Lift

A small incision is created halfway around the top of the areola. This technique is often ideal for individuals with minor breast sagging.

Periareolar Lift

This incision, also known as the “donut lift,” runs around the edge of the areola. It is ideal for addressing mild breast ptosis.

Vertical Lift

This technique, also known as the “lollipop lift, ” involves creating two incisions. Once is created around the areola, and another is created vertically from the areola to the breast fold. This incision is usually used when a surgeon needs to remove excess skin while also reshaping the breast.

Anchor Lift

Also called the “inverted T” incision, this technique involves the creation of three incisions. The first incision is created around the edge of the areola, the second is created horizontally along the breast crease, and the third connects the previous two. This technique is especially effective when used along with a breast reduction procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Which is the best type of breast lift?

Our surgeons have several surgical options available, depending on the patient’s needs. Your surgeon will consider factors such as breast skin elasticity, areolar size, general breast shape, glandular density, and degree of deflation to help determine the best surgical approach. Before the surgery date, your surgeon will explain the procedure, during which you can ask any questions you may have.

  • How long will breast lift results last?

Having a breast lift is equivalent to resetting the clock of breast sagging. This procedure improves the appearance of drooping breasts to deliver a youthful, perkier, and more attractive contour. However, keep in mind that certain life events, such as weight fluctuations and future pregnancies, can negatively impact your results. Our surgeons recommend that you have a breast lift after reaching your ideal weight and completing important milestones such as having children. Furthermore, you can maximize how long the results of this treatment last by maintaining a healthy lifestyle with a proper diet and exercise regimen.

  • Will a breast lift affect my ability to breastfeed?

Plastic surgeons find that patients who are able to breastfeed before a mastopexy are able to do so after the procedure. During the surgery, the surgeon focuses on tightening excess skin and ligaments without the removal of breast tissue. This means that glands, ducts, and other breast structures needed for breastfeeding will not be affected.
