What is Fat Grafting?
Fat grafting, also known as fat transfer, is an aesthetic procedure that involves removing fat from one area of the body and injecting it into another. At Defyne, we utilize fat grafting in many of our procedures to achieve optimal outcomes. Along with treating areas of the body, fat grafting can be especially effective in achieving hand and facial rejuvenation. Facial fat grafting is an effective solution to many aesthetic concerns, such as dark circles, fine lines and wrinkles, scars, loss of facial volume, and more. Hand fat grafting can mask veins and tendons that become more visible with aging and restore volume to the back of the hands.
Our surgeons can help you achieve the natural-looking results you desire by using cutting-edge technology, to process harvested fat into nano fat or micro fat.
At Defyne we have combined facial fat grafting with other facial rejuvenation procedures in our signature P.R.O Facial Rejuvenation to help you regain your youthful glow without the need for a facelift or scars.
The Defyne Approach
At Defyne, we specialize in the creation of personalized treatment plans for each of our patients. Unlike others who believe in a “one size fits all” philosophy, we understand that each of our patients has their own unique aesthetic goals. Using proven, safe, and cutting-edge surgical techniques and technologies, we are dedicated to providing natural-looking results while also minimizing unnecessary risks and side effects.
What to Expect
To begin your fat grafting journey, you must schedule a consultation with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons. This meeting is central to helping your surgeon understand your personal aesthetic goals and is also a great opportunity for you to ask any questions regarding the procedure.
Fat grafting is performed on an outpatient basis. Our plastic surgeons take a highly individualized treatment approach to meet the needs of each individual patient’s aesthetic goals.
Fat grafting is a multi-step process that includes the following:
Fat Harvesting
Liposuction is used to collect fat cells from a donor area, such as the abdomen, thighs, or flanks.
Fat Processing
The harvested fat is then purified to eliminate blood and any damaged cells. At Defyne, we only use the latest and best innovative technologies to transform harvested fat into growth factor-rich nanofat or microfat.
Fat Transfer
The purified fat is then injected into the targeted area using a fine needle to restore volume and smooth the skin.
Because fat grafting is an outpatient procedure, patients can return home to rest and heal. Mild swelling, bruising, and discomfort is to be initially expected.
Minimal downtime is required, so most patients can return to work after a day or so, depending on their comfort level. You may gradually resume physical activity as your surgeon recommends. Be sure to follow the aftercare instructions provided by your surgeon to ensure proper healing and natural-looking results.

Fat Grafting Candidates
Healthy individuals who are bothered by visible signs of volume loss or aging can often benefit from fat transfer. Ideal patients will desire a natural-looking aesthetic improvement, as well as have enough fat in other body areas to remove and transfer. To learn more regarding candidacy, please schedule a consultation with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons in Scottsdale, AZ.
Treated Once. Enhanced Forever.
As we age, our faces can experience natural changes such as volume loss, downward migration of the fat pads and cheeks, and thinning of the skin. This can result in a visibly aged appearance. Aging can also cause the tendons and veins on the back of the hands to be more visible due to volume loss. At Defyne, our plastic surgeons employ a highly personalized approach to fat grafting to help you achieve results you can enjoy for years to come.
What Our Patients Say
Read MoreFrequently Asked Questions
-
How long does a fat grafting procedure take?
The fat grafting procedure can take between 15 minutes and two hours, depending on the areas being treated and the desired results.
-
How long does it take to see fat grafting results?
While patients can see immediate results, the final result is visible after about a year. This is because the transferred fat cells need time to grow and become fully viable with a blood supply.
