What is Breast Augmentation?
Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure to enhance breast size and shape. This is typically achieved through the placement of breast implants, though it can also be done with natural fat transfer with our True Shape Breast Augmentation. Women may choose to undergo this procedure for many reasons, including the desire to restore breast fullness that was lost following pregnancy and breastfeeding, to better balance curvy hips, to enhance self-image, and more.
The Defyne Approach
Because no two women have the exact same breast augmentation goals, we believe that no two treatment plans should look the same. At Defyne, we create highly personalized surgical plans to help each patient meet their unique goals. Our surgeons employ only the most advanced, proven surgical methods and techniques to ensure natural-looking results you can enjoy for years to come.
What To Expect
If you are considering breast augmentation, a consultation appointment is your first step. During this meeting, you will discuss your unique aesthetic goals with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons, as well as your medical history. This will help your surgeon determine if this procedure is right for you. Individuals who are not ideal candidates for a traditional breast augmentation or are seeking a more natural option may benefit from our True Shape Breast Augmentation.
If breast augmentation is the best treatment option for you, you may be asked to take certain steps to prepare for your procedure. This may include stopping or adjusting certain medications and stopping smoking. Your surgeon will give you detailed instructions on how to prepare.
Breast augmentation surgery is an outpatient procedure that is performed under general anesthesia. Your surgeon will perform the most appropriate breast augmentation procedure to address your individual concerns. At Defyne, we use advanced surgical methods to achieve natural-looking results while minimizing the risk of scarring and other side effects.
Incision Patterns
There is an array of breast augmentation incision patterns that can be used to place breast implants. These include the following.
Inframammary Incision
This incision is created within the inframammary fold or the natural skin crease beneath the breast. The selected implant will then be placed through this incision.
Transaxillary Incision
An incision is created under the arm near the armpit, through which an implant is inserted using a special endoscope.
Periareolar Incision
An incision is created around the edge of the areola, through which an implant is placed.
Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation
If you choose to undergo breast augmentation with fat transfer instead of implants, traditional breast augmentation incision patterns will not be made. Instead, liposuction will be used to remove fat from an area of the body, such as the stomach or thighs, which is then re-injected into the breasts to add volume.
At Defyne, we use proven enhanced viability fat transfer techniques (EVFT) to increase the proportion of viable fat that stays in the breast. This allows us to have a more predictable outcome compared to standard techniques. Our signature True Shape Breast Augmentation can be done awake in the comforts of our very own specialized procedure room. In our setting, recovery is faster, and downtime and scars are nearly eliminated.
Following breast augmentation, most patients can return home to rest and recover. Overall, recovery may vary from one patient to another, depending on the extensiveness of the procedure. Directly following surgery, you will need someone to drive you home, as well as assist with daily chores during the first few days. You will be given a special compression garment to wear, which will help support the breasts and reduce swelling. Your surgeon will prescribe appropriate pain medication to help with any discomfort. Our clinical team will provide you with specific instructions regarding healing and when you can resume exercise and more strenuous activities.

Many of these are available in a teardrop shape, giving the bottom of the breast a fuller and raised appearance.

- Lower chance of rupture, rippling, and other complications.
- Available in rounded or teardrop shapes.
- Teardrop shape provides a full and raised breast bottom appearance.
