What is a Mommy Makeover?
Motherhood can be an extremely rewarding experience, bringing with it many positive memories and experiences. However, it can also lead to unwanted changes in a woman’s body, such as loss of breast volume, separation of abdominal muscles, lax skin, excess fat deposits, and stretch marks. A mommy makeover is a highly personalized group of procedures to address these concerns, helping mothers achieve their ideal bodies.
At Defyne, we don’t subscribe to a “one size fits all” approach. Our board-certified plastic surgeons take the time to curate a personalized procedure plan for you, ensuring natural-looking results you can feel confident in.
Labiaplasty surgery is growing in popularity as it is simple, quick, and presents extremely high satisfaction rates of up to 97%, according to a study published by the Aesthetic Surgery Journal.
Changes to Celebrate
Mothers who are experiencing undesired changes to their bodies following childbirth can often benefit from a mommy makeover procedure. Not only can this procedure be individualized based on an individual’s body goals, our surgeons use cutting-edge techniques and technology to achieve unparalleled results.
The Defyne Approach
At Defyne, we believe that every individual deserves an individualized, curated treatment plan. Because of this, our skilled surgeons take the time to craft unique surgical plans for each of our patients. Using advanced and innovative surgical methods and technologies, we aim to achieve natural-looking outcomes while minimizing possible side effects.
What to Expect
The first step of any surgical procedure is a consultation appointment. This visit is scheduled so that you and your surgeon can discuss your concerns, goals, and medical history. If this procedure is deemed appropriate, you may be asked to stop or adjust certain medications, as well as stop smoking. Your plastic surgeon will provide you with specific instructions regarding how to best prepare for your mommy makeover.
The traditional mommy makeover procedure is performed under general anesthesia and is an outpatient procedure, meaning you can go home the same day.
Each individual mommy makeover treatment plan will include a unique set of procedures to address each patient’s problem areas. A mommy makeover may include a combination of any of the following procedures:
Breast Procedures
Pregnancy and breastfeeding can result in size, volume, and laxity changes to the breasts. Many women choose to undergo breast procedures such as breast augmentation, breast lift, or breast reduction to address these changes for an improvement in comfort and aesthetic appearance.
Tummy Tuck
Weight fluctuations during pregnancy can lead to excess lax skin and stubborn pockets of fat on the tummy, as well as separated abdominal muscles. A tummy tuck addresses these concerns for a firmer, flatter belly contour. This procedure can also remove stretch marks in this area!
Liposuction
Liposuction is a versatile cosmetic procedure designed to remove stubborn fat from various areas of the body. Our surgeons use liposuction to contour and sculpt the body during a mommy makeover procedure.
Facial Procedures
Patients who are also concerned with common signs of facial aging, such as lines and wrinkles and loss of facial volume, can also benefit from injectables or fillers. Our board-certified plastic surgeons perform these non-invasive treatments after the patient has recovered from the surgical portion of their mommy makeover.
Labiaplasty
During childbirth, women can experience labia tearing, which may lead to cosmetic concerns. Labiaplasty can be performed to address misshaped or unequal-sized labia and reduce enlarged or elongated labia.
360° Refyne (Scarless Mommy Makeover)
The mommy makeover procedure has traditionally been performed under general anesthesia in a hospital or ambulatory surgical center. At Defyne, we have been able to combine advanced local anesthesia techniques to offer these procedures under twilight sedation in the comforts of our very own specialized procedure rooms. This means that for the right candidate, there is no need for a tube in your throat or any paralysis. Our board-certified anesthesiologist ensures your safety and comfort while minimizing medication, leading to a shorter recovery time and a quicker return to your activities.
Overall, recovery following a mommy makeover procedure will vary depending on the number and extent of the procedures performed. Once you return home to recovery, we recommend light walks around the house to promote blood flow and healing. Our surgeons attempt to avoid using drains whenever possible to ensure your comfort. You will also be asked to wear compression garments to reduce swelling and support your new body contours. Most patients can return to light work within two weeks.
How long your mommy makeover results last will depend on your lifestyle following your procedure. Patients who become pregnant following a mommy makeover or experience significant weight gain may see changes to the shape of their bodies.

What Our Patients Say
Read MoreFrequently Asked Questions
-
How soon after delivery can I have a mommy makeover?
We recommend that patients wait at least six months from pregnancy before they schedule their consultation for a mommy makeover. It is also highly recommended that patients do not plan to have any more children and will not be breastfeeding; otherwise, their results can be lost.
-
Can I have children following a mommy makeover?
Yes. You can still safely have children after a mommy makeover. However, getting pregnant again will induce the bodily changes that occur with pregnancy, which will possibly and more than likely negate and reverse the improvements gained from the surgery in the first place. It is recommended that women wait until after their family is complete before they schedule their consultation.
-
Will I have scars after mommy makeover surgery?
As with any surgical procedure, scarring is inevitable with a mommy makeover procedure, as incisions are created in the skin. However, our board-certified plastic surgeons utilize only the most advanced surgical techniques to minimize scarring while delivering the best possible outcome. Scars are also concealed within the natural folds of the skin or areas where they are hardly visible.
