What are Botox & Dysport?
Every day, we make many different facial expressions, from frowning to smiling and everything in between. In order for our faces to create these different expressions, our facial muscles must repeatedly contract and relax. This repeated muscle contraction can lead to what is known as dynamic lines and wrinkles over time. Botox and Dysport are injectable neuromodulator treatments specifically created to address these dynamic lines for a smoother skin appearance. These treatments work by temporarily blocking nerve impulses to the muscles, causing them to relax.
Botox and Dysport can address a variety of aesthetic concerns, including:
- Forehead creases
- Glabellar lines (frown lines)
- Crow’s feet
- A “cobblestoned’ appearance to the chin
- Vertical neck bands
- A square jaw
- And more
At Defyne, we take great care in creating a personalized Botox or Dysport treatment plan to help you achieve your desired results. Whether your goal is to prevent lines and wrinkles later in life or smooth lines for a more youthful appearance, our team can help.
Your Best Look Yet
As mentioned, repeated facial expressions can lead to unwanted dynamic lines and wrinkles. This, paired with the inevitable impact of environmental and lifestyle factors, causes our skin to begin to look and feel aged. With Botox and Dysport, obvious signs of aging can be treated for a smoother complexion.
The Defyne Approach
At Defyne, we do things differently in that we don’t believe in a “one size fits all” approach. Our surgeons understand that each individual has unique aesthetic and anti-aging goals, and they take the time to curate treatment plans to help reach those goals. We use only proven, advanced methods and techniques for natural-looking results.
What to Expect
The first step toward determining if Botox or Dysport is right for you is to speak with one of our specialized patient care coordinators during a personalized consultation appointment. This is a perfect time to discuss your personal aesthetic goals, as well as ask any questions you may have.
Directly before your Botox or Dysport treatment, your provider may apply a topical numbing cream to the treatment area to ensure your comfort. For those who desire further comfort during treatment, PRO-NOX is available. Next, Botox or Dysport will be skillfully injected into the targeted muscle at strategic points. While some patients may experience a pinching feeling during the injection, it should not be painful. This treatment is generally quick and straightforward.
There is no downtime required following Botox or Dysport injections, so you can feel free to return to your regular routine. Mild bruising or redness may occur, which should resolve with time. However, it is highly recommended that patients avoid alcohol consumption, strenuous activity, and exposure to heat (hot tubs, saunas, and sunbathing) for 24 hours after treatment to ensure proper healing.
Depending on the individual, the product used, and the area treated, results can typically be noticed 3 to 7 days after treatment and last for 3 to 6 months. To maintain results, your provider will simply repeat the treatment to ensure optimal results.

Are You a Good Fit?
Botox & Dysport Candidates
Both Botox and Dysport are FDA-approved neurotoxins that correct wrinkling and other imperfections in the face. You may be a good candidate if you are 18 years and older, are in good overall health, and are looking to improve the concerns that Botox and Dysport treat. However, patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, allergic to albumin or Botox itself, or those with certain neuromuscular disorders should not receive this treatment. Ultimately, the best way to determine if neuromodulators are right for you is to schedule a consultation with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons in Scottsdale, AZ.

-
What is the difference between Botox and Dysport?
The main distinction between Botox and Dysport is their formulation, which influences how much the product spreads and how quickly results can be seen. While Botox contains a protein that takes longer to break down, Dysport contains a milk protein that spreads more easily but breaks down a little faster.
-
How does Botox work?
Botox is an FDA-approved drug that weakens or paralyzes targeted muscles. The Botox compound works by blocking signals from nerves to the muscles, thus preventing contraction. This, in turn, helps relax frown lines, forehead lines, crow’s feet, and other facial imperfections.
-
How many BOTOX sessions do I need?
Most experts recommend that you have a Botox treatment every 3-4 months. However, it may be possible for your facial muscles to train themselves to contract less. In this case, the period of time between treatment sessions can be extended much longer. Your injector will keep track of your results and recommend the appropriate duration between treatments.
-
BOTOX vs dermal fillers?
Botox and dermal fillers are similar in that they are both non-surgical cosmetic treatments used to smooth out wrinkles and facial lines. However, while Botox works by paralyzing specific muscles, dermal fillers work by filling hollow areas to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Our experienced providers are uniquely positioned to help you choose the ideal treatment method based on your aesthetic concerns.
