  • Invasiveness: Moderately invasive

  • Anesthesia: General, asleep

  • Size of Scar: Hidden under the nose

What is a Rhinoplasty?

Because the nose is the central feature of your face, it can impact the overall proportions of your appearance. Individuals who are bothered by the shape, size, or symmetry of their nose can often benefit from Rhinoplasty or nose reshaping surgery. Even patients who only need a small adjustment to their nose can benefit from noticeable improvements to their overall facial proportions.

The goals of rhinoplasty are highly individualized, as each patient will have their own unique aesthetic goals. By reshaping the nasal structures, our board-certified plastic surgeons can help patients achieve natural-looking results. Generally, a rhinoplasty can achieve one or more of the following:

  • Smooth a bump in the bridge of the nose.
  • Straighten a crooked nose.
  • Reduce an over-protruding nasal tip.
  • Refine a bulbous tip.
  • Reduce the size of a nose.
  • Restore symmetry to the nose following injury.
  • And more.

Treated Once. Enhanced Forever.

Rhinoplasty can produce life-altering results for individuals bothered by certain aspects of their nose. It is often the gold standard for patients seeking to correct these issues. Our plastic surgeons can help you look and feel your best, achieving stunning results you can enjoy for years to come.

The Defyne Approach

At Defyne, we specialize in the creation of personalized treatment plans for each of our patients. Unlike others who believe in a “one size fits all” philosophy, we understand that each of our patients has their own unique aesthetic goals. Using proven, safe, and cutting-edge surgical techniques and technologies, we are dedicated to providing natural-looking results while also minimizing unnecessary risks and side effects.

What to Expect

To begin your rhinoplasty journey, you must schedule a consultation with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons. This meeting is crucial in helping your surgeon understand your personal aesthetic goals. It is also a great opportunity for you to ask any questions regarding the procedure.

If a rhinoplasty is determined to be the appropriate procedure for you, you may be asked to stop or adjust certain medications and stop smoking. Your surgeon will give you detailed instructions on how to best prepare for this procedure.

The rhinoplasty procedure is performed using general anesthesia on an outpatient basis. Our plastic surgeons are skilled in a variety of different surgical techniques to meet the needs of each individual patient’s rhinoplasty goals.

Because rhinoplasty is an outpatient procedure, patients can return home to rest and heal. Swelling, bruising, and discomfort are expected for the first few days, and these can be controlled with the prescription of pain medication. You will be asked to keep your head elevated to reduce swelling. Nasal packing will be placed inside the nose, which will be removed after 48 hours.

Many individuals are able to return to light work, such as desk work, within a week or two. However, strenuous activities should be avoided until your surgeon gives you the green light. Be sure to follow the aftercare instructions provided by your surgeon to ensure proper healing and natural-looking results.

Rhinoplasty Candidates

Patients of many ages can benefit from rhinoplasty. However, the nose must be fully developed before this procedure is performed; for girls, this is around the age of 15, and for boys, it is around the age of 16. Ideal patients will be overall healthy, wish to address aesthetic concerns of their nose, and have realistic expectations regarding what rhinoplasty can achieve. To learn more regarding candidacy, please schedule a consultation with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons in Scottsdale, AZ.

Your Individuality is Our Priority

Our plastic surgeons are skilled in a variety of different surgical techniques to meet the needs of each individual patient’s rhinoplasty goals.

Traditional Rhinoplasty

Traditional rhinoplasty surgery is performed to reshape the nose to achieve the desired aesthetic outcomes. There are two main techniques used to achieve rhinoplasty, including open rhinoplasty and closed rhinoplasty.

During an open rhinoplasty, a small incision is created under the nasal tip, between the nostrils. This gives your surgeon total access to the nasal structures, where he can sculpt the nose to achieve the desired results.

During a closed rhinoplasty, all incisions are created inside of the nostril. While this results in no scarring outside of the nose, it does not allow the surgeon complete access to the nasal structures, as an open rhinoplasty does. Because of this, the approach is most commonly used for individuals who require minor adjustments to their nasal structures.

Ethnic Rhinoplasty

At Defyne, our surgeons also perform ethnic rhinoplasty procedures. This procedure is performed to reshape the nose to suit a patient’s ethnic background and facial features. Many patients of Asian, Middle Eastern, African American, or other non-Caucasian backgrounds have certain traits that they celebrate as part of their heritage but are unhappy with certain cosmetic issues such as very wide nostrils, asymmetry, or a hump on their bridge. Our plastic surgeons can address these concerns while still maintaining the patient’s facial structure.

Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty

While some patients may be interested in altering the appearance of their noses, they may not be ideal candidates for or interested in surgery. Our surgeons offer non-invasive rhinoplasty options using injectable fillers to achieve the desired results. While filler results are not as permanent as rhinoplasty, it may be a good option for some.

Every single staff member is super friendly and genuinely makes you feel like a friend and not a patient. I have been to multiple plastic surgeons in the past and always felt like just another number. But Dr. Turin was the complete opposite! He always made me feel like a priority; I always felt comfortable and he always addressed any concerns that I had and really listened and made sure I was happy with everything. He really is a master of his craft!!

Next to being an extremely intelligent and beyond-competent surgeon, Dr. Tessler is one of the coolest, down-to-earth individuals I’ve met. He will answer a million questions and never once makes you feel rushed. He explains things in a way that breaks down the process but doesn’t lose the value of his experience or professionalism. The first time I met him he made me feel like we’ve known each other for forever (that’s how comfortable he made me feel)!

The personalized approach Dr. Turin took in discussing my needs and concerns made me feel confident that I was in the best hands possible. The outcome of the reconstruction procedure went beyond my expectations, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. The recovery process was smooth, and I felt supported every step of the way.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is nasal packing?

Nasal packing refers to the placement of sterile gauze or cotton into the nose to persistently apply pressure to the nasal septum. While many patients feel uncomfortable about this, it is for their own benefit. The pack works by applying direct pressure in order to reduce irritation and decrease bleeding. Nasal packing is typically removed 48 hours after the surgery. Our surgeons are committed to ensuring that all our patients get the best possible outcome from their rhinoplasty.

  • What kind of results can I expect from rhinoplasty?

Immediately after surgery, your nose may be all dressed up, though these dressings will be removed after recovery. Within a few weeks, you should get an idea of what your reshaped nose will look like. It may take up to a year – however – for the shape of the nose to settle down to a final outcome.
